SUMMARY:REGATRACE Final Conference
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe REGATRACE Conference will take place on 16 November 2022 at Thon Hotel EU in Brussels.\nWhy should you attend this conference? \nThe scale-up of biomethane production by 2030 proposed by the REPowerEU will support the European Union in the achievement of climate goals and energy security alike. However\, to release the European potential of biomethane it is vital that it can be traded across national borders. \nThe REGATRACE project (started in June 2019) aims to create an efficient trade system based on issuing and trading renewable gases Guarantees of Origin (GoO)\, including biomethane. This will strongly contribute to the uptake of the European common biomethane market. To achieve this\, project’s partners have been working to set up a European biomethane/renewable gases GoO system and national GoO issuing bodies. They also have been working to integrate GoO from different renewable gas technologies with electric and hydrogen GoO systems\, through integrated assessment and sustainable feedstock mobilisation strategies and support for biomethane market uptake. \nREGATRACE is a valuable project to address bottlenecks\, such as cross border trading\, for biomethane project scale up. The development of a European renewable gas market is essential to ensure that increasing shares of renewable gases are injected into our gas grids. This will support the decarbonisation of the gas sector in the path towards a climate-neutral Europe. \nKey topics for discussion \n\nImplementation of gas GOs and renewable gas registries during the REGATRACE project\nState of the art of systems for documenting cross-border biomethane transfer\nDevelopments for documenting cross-border transfer of renewable gas\nPolicy recommendations for the uptake of biomethane production and cross-border trade\nResults and impacts of the REGATRACE project on the biomethane industry\n\nRegister for free here\nCheck the agenda here\n

SUMMARY:European Biogas Conference
DESCRIPTION:The European Commission’s RePowerEU communication is a decisive step towards the rapid development of our industry in Europe. Our sector is set to deploy 35 bcm of sustainable biomethane by 2030\, including 3.5 bcm more by the end of this year. By doing this\, we would replace 20% of the current gas imports coming from Russia. The increase in biomethane production will also help us reduce waste\, increase food security\, and support the transition to agroecology in our farms. \nBluePloint\, Brussels. \nMore Information

SUMMARY:Workshop on cross-sectoral verification of renewable gases
DESCRIPTION:In an integrated energy system\, innovative renewable gas technologies are becoming increasingly important. While some innovative renewable gas technologies are in demonstration phase\, others have already become commercial in recent years. The recast of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED2) recognizes these developments and includes new terms and definitions\, such as recycled carbon fuels and gaseous renewable fuels of non-biological origin. In order to count these innovative renewable fuels towards the EU Member States RED2 goals\, requirements such as sustainability\, renewability of source\, mass balancing\, no double counting and no overcompensation must be met.\nWith regard to cross-sectoral technologies\, a proper documentation and exchange of information is needed between sectors and documentation systems. The EU funded REGATRACE project aims at developing guidelines for the verification and documentation of renewable gas technologies like Power-to-Methane (PtG)\, Liquified Biogas (Bio-LNG) and Methanol (from recycled carbon and biomass)\, which can be applied and implemented by national issuing bod-ies\, certification schemes and regulators.\nIn this respect\, the German Energy Agency (dena) is organizing an expert workshop on October 22nd\, 2019 in Berlin.\nWe kindly invite you to join us in this exciting discussion. Among the topics we will be covering during the workshop are the following: \n\nWhat verification could be appropriate for cross-sectoral renewable gas technologies to meet RED2 definitions and requirements?\nHow can the documentation between different documentation systems be organized? What additional in-formation is required? Which elements must be considered for this purpose?\nWhich kind of information could serve as a proof for RED2 requirements? How could it be verified?
